Colossalcon Prime is an anime, gaming, and Japanese pop culture convention held in Sandusky, Ohio, USA. It's the original, flagship Colossalcon event (running since 2002, at this venue since 2009), known for its location at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center, whose indoor waterpark is one of the largest in the country. The con runs over Memorial Day weekend each spring and blends typical convention programming — cosplay contests, artist alley, panels, DJ sets — with resort amenities like the waterpark and arcade.

Colossalcon Prime 2026 proved once again why it's the most fun, most entertaining, and most exciting anime convention in the middle of America. Located in Sandusky, Ohio, Colossalcon Prime is a long-running anime convention based at the water park resort called Kalahari.
The backdrop of pools, waterslide, and hot tubs created the perfect setting for the cliche summer beach episode of every anime you've seen. You know the one where all the characters make a random trip to the beach where shenanigans ensue. Applying sun tan lotion, playing in the water, the male characters ogling the female characters, and maybe having a wardrobe malfunction are all anime tropes which could be played out at Colossalcon Prime. It is perhaps the closest you'll come to your anime waifu come to life.
But it's not all about the water park and swimsuits. Colossalcon Prime takes the convention serious and puts together a very respectable collection of panels, contests, games, and so much more. For a relatively small convention estimated to be around 15-20,000 attendees, it has a good sized vendor hall and artist alley and a packed schedule of activities to go along with them.
In fact, attendance seems to have largely recovered to pre-pandemic levels. The parking lots were once again overflowing into the surrounding grassy fields. Fortunately, the Ohio Kalahari resort has plenty of well maintained grounds.
Since this con has the resort to itself, it comfortably takes over every public area for the greater good of its attendees. You'll hardly see a normal resort guest during Colossalcon Prime and not very many kids either. Colossalcon hosts outdoor photoshoots and games like red rover which you likely won't see at any other anime convention.
There’s a heavily trafficked Otaku flea market where anyone can setup shop and sell or trade their old anime goods. It also hosts one of the most unique events in the anime convention industry - a late night anime swim rave called "Rave at the Waves". Imagine hundreds of swimsuit clad attendees partying to the beats of live DJs until 3 am. The humid 85 F indoor waterpark environment would usually have you plugging your nose to avoid the smell of wet, sweaty weebs, except there you're in a chlorine bath which effectively kills off the offending odors (and maybe a few brain cells too).
The weather is near perfect in Ohio during the May/June timeline. It's sunny skies and highs peaking in the 80's F. Although it was a little windy and cool this year, that didn't stop the hearty cosplayers from lounging in and around the outdoor pools.
